In 1984, SCIA pioneered the engagement of foreign arbitrators, and in 1989, SCIA set a precedent for Chinese arbitration awards to be recognized and enforced abroad in accordance with the New York Convention. In 2012, SCIA pioneered to establish a statutory body governance mechanism and a corporate governance structure with an international Council serving as the decision body. As of now, the parties involved in arbitration cases has covered 143 countries and regions, the panel arbitrators covering 129 countries and regions.
