Saudi Arabia Commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the UNCITRAL in the Riyadh International Disputes Week

In one exceptional evening that lent strategic weight to the KSA in the field of global law, Riyadh hosted an international gathering to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Commission On International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). The commemoration was organized by the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) and the National Competitiveness Center (NCC). The event was part of the 3rd edition of Riyadh International Disputes Week (RIDW26) that was held from the 1st to the 5th of the current month of February.

RIDW26 included KSA’s official celebration of the 60th anniversary of the UNCITRAL where decision-makers compared notes with law experts and business leaders to shine a light on its achievements and step changes throughout six decades in the area of unifying commercial laws globally and that culminated in unified legal frameworks conducive to international trading.

The ceremony started with screening a special documentary entitled ‘Six Decades of Leadership: Commemoration of UNCITRAL’. The documentary highlighted the historical milestones of UNCITRAL throughout 6 decades showcasing its significant contributions to the legislation of rules that govern international trade, and the unification of legal frameworks that boost global investment stability.

The program also included welcome remarks that emphasized the significance of current times in the history of commercial law. Speakers included Dr. Walid Abanumay, Chairman of SCCA, and Joubin-Bret, Secretary of UNCITRAL.

During their remarks, the speakers emphasized how steeped are the Kingdom and international organizations in strategic partnership and noted that Riyadh’s hosting of this forum is a clear testament to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing a reliable legislative environment that aligns with global best practices and provides a safe and attractive climate.

The event served as a vital platform to enhance professional dialogue, offering attendees—including leaders of international bodies and practitioners—the opportunity to exchange insights and build bridges of cooperation between regional legal institutions and their global counterparts, thereby supporting the ecosystem of commercial dispute resolution.
The event concluded with a series of diverse programs that embodied Saudi hospitality, highlighting Riyadh’s success in doing itself justice as a global hub for legal dialogue and a key center for shaping the future of commercial justice both regionally and globally.
