Simon Hughes KC is a senior counsel (KC) specialising in complex construction & engineering, infrastructure and energy related disputes.
He was awarded "Construction and Energy Silk of the Year" for 2019 by the Legal 500, and in February 2024, Simon was announced as ‘Construction Silk of the Year’ at the inaugural Legal 500 Middle East & North Africa Awards.
He comes recommended for his client-focused approach, understanding of the technicalities of disputes and his "exceptional" advocacy and cross-examination. Simon is ranked in the 'Star' category in Chambers & Partners for Construction and is ranked in the highest band in Chambers & Partners for International Arbitration. There are only few silks with these dual top-ranking and this reflects Simon's leading practice for major clients (EPC contractors and employers alike) and leading law firms.
Simon has a particularly strong international arbitration practice in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with current cases as lead counsel concerning major projects in Kuwait, Algeria, Egypt, the UAE, Oman, Qatar and indeed KSA (including a major ICC case as arbitrator). Simon has conducted cases involving the governing law of all of these jurisdictions, and indeed many others.
Simon has just assumed the role as editor (with Piers Stansfield KC) of Keating on Construction Contracts, a leading practitioner text, first authored by Donald Keating QC in 1955.
