Dr. Mohamed F. Sweify, FCIArb is a New York based attorney at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP with experience counseling, arbitrating, and litigating complex domestic, transnational, and international disputes, before the U.S. federal and state courts and under major arbitration rules, including the ICSID, AAA-ICDR, ICC, JAMS, LCIA, SCCA, CRCICA, and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and before arbitral tribunals seated in different jurisdictions. Dr. Sweify also has had prosecutorial experience in Egypt, where he handled governmental corruption and financial crimes investigations. In addition, Dr. Sweify teaches Islamic financial laws and arbitration and ADR at Fordham Law School and lectures on arbitration and ADR at a number of leading U.S. law schools.
Dr. Sweify holds leadership positions in the international arbitration field, including the Chair of the International Dispute Resolution Committee at the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). In 2023, Dr. Sweify was appointed as a member of the CPR’s Young Steering Committee (Y-ADR). In 2022, Dr. Sweify was awarded the Africa’s 30 Most Promising Arbitration Practitioners Award. In addition, Dr. Sweify is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the youngest arbitrator admitted to the National Roster of Arbitrators in the history of the American Arbitration Association (AAA/ICDR).
