Mariam is a Principal Research Fellow at Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (SIDRA) and her main focus of research is the next generation dispute resolution, which includes commercial and investor-state arbitration and mediation; Mariam is also engaged in research and development projects in relation to empirical research on appropriate dispute resolution.
Mariam acts as counsel, arbitrator and mediator. She is a Chair of the Arbitration Counsel of the Georgian International Arbitration Centre (GIAC).
Prior to joining SIDRA, Mariam worked for the government of Georgia. For over 10 years (2012-2022) she was a Head of Arbitration Department in the Ministry of Justice in charge of state representation in international arbitration. Mariam has been involved in major investment and commercial arbitration matters before ICSID, ICC, SCC arbitrations, as well as before ad hoc arbitration under UNCITRAL rules. She has negotiated number of Bilateral Investment Treaties and Free Trade Agreements on behalf of Georgia. Mariam was the Head of Delegation for Georgia in UNCITRAL Working Group III, in ICSID Rule amendment process and in Modernization of the Energy Charter Treaty.
